Position Summary

Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington is seeking part time COVID-19 Response Aids for immediate hire to assist with student return to hybrid learning. As students return to the building for a hybrid instructional model, COVID-19 Response Aids will support the School Nurse in the execution of our COVID-19 testing and safety protocols. Aids will be required to work Monday through Thursday from 8am-3:30pm.


Responsibilities

COVID-19 Testing Support

  • Manage students during morning arrivals, afternoon departures, and COVID-19 testing
  • Conduct COVID-19 testing on students and staff
  • Data entry for testing results and follow up
  • Assist with implementation of mask-wearing and social distancing protocol
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

  • A willingness and ability to work in person (COVID-19 precautions will be taken by the school to ensure health and safety)
  • A track record of timeliness and professionalism
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • Successful criminal background and child protection check

Compensation

  • $13.00/hour

Part Time Bus Aid

Position Summary

Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington seeks part time bus aids for immediate hire to assist with transportation of meal routes to our families and students.  In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Great Oaks is partnering with First Student Transportation to provide meals three days/week to students. Bus Aids ride the meal routes and assist the bus driver in delivering the meals to students’ homes. Bus Aids are required to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Additional shifts may be added as needed. 


Responsibilities

Meal route support

  • Assist the cafeteria team in loading meals on to the bus at the start of the route
  • Support the bus driver during the route with navigation, as needed
  • Unload meals at each delivery location
  • Track deliveries to all meals are received

Qualifications

  • A track record of timeliness and professionalism
  • Ability to lift medium-heavy loads on and off a bus
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • Successful criminal background and child protection check 

Compensation

  • $10.00/hour

GO-Wil Bridge Leader

Great Oaks (GO) Charter School – Wilmington opened in downtown Wilmington in the fall of 2015. In the 2020-21 school year, Great Oaks – Wilmington will serve approximately 415 students in grades 6-11 and will grow to serve students in grades 6th-12th by adding 12th grade in the following year. Many of our students enter our program behind grade level. 

We have high academic and behavioral expectations for our students. We pair rigorous curriculum and teaching with intense personal support from teachers, tutors, and staff. We prepare our students for college and career success through several key elements:

  • Small school – Grade-level cohorts of less 100 students allows each student to feel connected and known. We focus on community and relationship building with families and students.

Position Summary:

Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington is seeking experienced and passionate college graduates of all ages to serve in our Bridge Leadership Program as AmeriCorps Members for the 2020-2021 school year. BRIDGE stands for Building Relationships in Delaware Grows Everyone. This new initiative is focused on creating connections between our students, our school, and our community. Bridge Leaders will play a critical role in achieving our school’s mission of creating a safe, effective, and innovative learning environment that enables each scholar to reach his or her greatest potential through a high dosage of individualized attention. Over the course of the school year, Bridge Leaders will provide high quality mentorship opportunities for students, design and facilitate family programming, and/or lead student-focused projects that will enhance the Great Oaks community. 


Responsibilities:

  • Building a Community Mentorship Program – Bridge Leaders will provide small group mentoring on a weekly basis for students as they make decisions regarding academics, relationships, and life goals. This mentorship will be focused on the development of social-emotional skills and improving behavioral outcomes for our students. Members will also be responsible for building and facilitating a network of community members who will provide mentorship to our targeted students within our student body. 
  • Driving Educational Outcomes during COVID-19 Virtual & Hybrid Learning – Bridge Leaders will lead in-person pods of 10-12 students throughout the duration of distance learning. A small group of Great Oaks students will come to the building to complete their coursework this fall. In this role, Bridge Leaders will oversee these students as they attend to complete their coursework and, in some cases, assist in leading additional programming for students as needed. 
  • Parent & Family Engagement – Great Oaks is a family-centered school. Bridge Leaders will work alongside our Family Engagement Coordinator to support Great Oaks families. They will plan events, conduct check-ins, and connect families with community resources. Bridge Leaders will track trends in family needs and work with the Operations Team to provide solutions to common problems.

Assistant Dean of Students

Substitute Teacher

Position Summary

Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington is seeking a student-centered, flexible, committed professional to fill the role of full time in-house substitute teacher. Substitute teachers will work on site as Great Oaks students return to in-person learning. The substitute teacher will step in for teachers who are out of the building as needed and follow prescribed lesson plans to ensure the continuity of student learning. They will also be called up to assist with school operations as needed.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
  • Fulfill student support functions such as small group instruction or lunch supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Para-educator

Position Summary: 

Great Oaks is looking for a compassionate, equity-minded, student-centered individual to serve as a para-educator for our highest need students. Para-educators work one-on-one or in small groups with particular students throughout the day to support them with their academic and social-emotional development. It is essential that this individual has a firm belief that every student can succeed. Working under the direct supervision of our Director of Student Support Services, this individual will support students who have specialized educational and behavioral needs. They will be responsible for knowing and understanding the Individualized Education Plans for each student on their caseload and providing the necessary support and intervention.


Key responsibilities include:

Provide direct, individualized student support by:

  • Collaborating with general education teachers, special education teachers, and tutors to support in the implementation of appropriate accommodations/modifications for each student
  • Building relationships/maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress
  • Assisting in collection and tracking of student data

Maintain strong classroom and school culture by:

  • Clearly and consistently communicating and upholding school rules, values, and expectations in and out of the classroom
  • Setting an urgent, respectful, and positive tone with students
  • Displaying extraordinary time management to maximize student learning
  • Taking on responsibilities such as advisory, lunch duty, enrichment classes, and after school activities

Competencies and Qualifications
