About Great Oaks Charter School Wilmington
The Great Oaks (GO) Charter School – Wilmington opened in downtown Wilmington in the fall of 2015. This school year, Great Oaks – Wilmington serves 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. In the 2021-2022 school year, Great Oaks added 12th grade to its enrollment, celebrating its first-ever graduating high school class. Great Oaks provides a unique structure of support for its students. Students receive daily individualized instruction from an AmeriCorps tutor to supplement their classroom learning. This commitment to mentorship and individualized learning helps Great Oaks students reach their maximum potential.
Position Summary
Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington is seeking a student-centered, flexible, committed professional to fill the role of the full-time in-house substitute teacher. Substitute teachers will work on-site as Great Oaks students return to in-person learning. The substitute teacher will step in for teachers who are out of the building as needed and follow prescribed lesson plans to ensure the continuity of student learning. They will also be called up to assist with school operations as needed.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
- Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
- Fulfill student support functions such as small group instruction or lunch supervision
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Associates degree, preferred
- A willingness and ability to work in person (COVID-19 precautions will be taken by the school to ensure health and safety)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A track record of success in building relationships with youth
- A strong belief that all students can succeed
- A do-whatever-it-takes attitude
