When is the deadline for my child to enroll at Great Oaks?
From December – August we accept enrollment applications online via www.schoolchoicede.org.
How does enrollment work?
All students within the state of Delaware are able to apply to be enrolled at Great Oaks Charter School. To apply online, please complete the enrollment application via the schoolchoicede.org website. This application allows you to apply and/or waitlist for any school that participates in the School Choice Application process. Once you’ve completed your application, expect an email notification and/or a phone call for your application results.
Are there financial aid options available?
Every student receives two free uniform shirts. If additional support is needed, we work together with the Family Resource Center in our building to provide for the needs of our families.
How long is the school day?
At Great Oaks, the school day begins at 9:20 am and goes until 4 pm. After-School Programs start at 4 pm and runs until 6 pm.
Does Great Oaks provide meals?
Students are provided breakfast and lunch, and if they stay after school, they are provided dinner. All meals provided are completely free of charge.
Is transportation provided?
Yes, we have transportation that runs all over New Castle County, from Bear to Wilmington! We also make travel accomdations our students whose bus routes we do not service. Contact us to learn more about our routes.
How much do after-school programs cost?
All after-school and athletic programs are free of charge to our students.
What types of after school programming are offered?
Our after-school programming has something for everyone! We offer basketball, football, volleyball, track, cheer and soccer. We also host a robust Arts program including musical theatre, band, choir, fashion design, dance and visual arts. We have leadership opportunities for students after school including National Junior Honors Society and Student Government. New clubs are being added every year based on student interest. In the past we have hosted clubs for yoga, newspaper, film, gaming, cosmetology, and more.
Is driver’s education provided for high school?
Yes! Since the 2019-2020 school year, we have been providing Driver’s Education to our High School Students.
Who are the fellows?
Great Oaks Fellows are integral members of the Great Oaks community. Fellows are responsible for providing individualized instruction, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities to small groups of students each day.
What electives do you offer?
Our menu of electives changes from year to year; in the past, we have offered Spanish, Fashion Design, Public Speaking, Current Events, Art, Technology, Music, and so much more! In the high school, we offer French and Spanish coursework, AP and other college-level courses, as well as two CTE pathways: K-12 Academy, Allied Health and Public & Community Health.
What curriculum do you use in your classrooms?
We are proud to be implementing a brand new set of highly-qualified, blended learning curriculum in the 2020-2021 school year. Our curriculum was carefully curated to provide a highly-engaging and rigorous educational experience for our students. Each curriculum is available online, making remote learning more accessible for our students. We are proud that we were able to find material that is culturally responsive and that will engage our students in the real-life application of skills.
