Cell Phone/ Electronic Devices Policy

Our mission here at Great Oaks is to create a focused, respectful, and engaging learning environment by promoting responsible and mindful use of cell phones. We recognize that technology can be a valuable educational tool, but also understand its potential to distract from academic and personal growth. This policy seeks to ensure that cell phones are used in ways that support safety, enhance learning opportunities, and foster positive social interactions. 

Exceptions for usage in school

  • Phones / Devices may be used before school, and after school.
  • Phones / Devices  may be used during breakfast, lunch time and transitions.

Rules for usage in school

  • Phones / Devices may not be used during academic instruction for any personal use (texting/facetiming/calling)
  • Phones / Devices may not be used for recording others without their consent.
  • Students may not post school-related content on social media that violates privacy or school values.

Consequences for misuse

  • 1st Offense: Verbal Warning
  • 2nd Offense: Parent or guardian contacted / student will be instructed to put the phone away/  Teacher will enter behavior referral will be entered into google doc.
  • 3rd Offense: Student will be instructed to put the phone away/ Teacher will enter behavior referral into google doc and appropriate consequence will be assigned.

Families: We understand the importance of having a cell phone / electronic device and that many of our scholars have them. We also understand that many times you are the ones paying for those cell phones / electronic devices. Therefore, we want to create a mutual level of respect in our community to maximize the learning experience for our scholars.

A Signed contract must be on file for all students stating that they have read, understand, and will adhere to the expectations and rules of this cell phone / electronic devices contract.
